Repurpose
UX/ UI Design
Overview
Repurpose is a app designed for the convenience of New Zealanders. With Repurpose, you can effortlessly discover locations to donate your unwanted household furniture and connect with businesses offering pickup services, all right at your fingertips. Download Repurpose and join the movement towards a cleaner and greener Aotearoa!
Problem Statement
Household items that can’t be thrown away sometimes can be a hassle for New Zealand residents. Auckland Council does not allow residents to leave their unwanted bulky items lying outside our properties. We also want to focus on this problem to help New Zealand improve reducing waste. Every Year, New Zealanders send 2.5 Million tonnes of waste to landfill.
Solution
The solution proposed is to design a tool for our community to use. Which will help us find methods to get rid of our unwanted furniture and helping us find a new home for these items instead of dumping them on the side of the street. Household items that can’t be thrown away sometimes can be a hustle for New Zealand residents. Auckland Council does not allow residents to leave their unwanted bulky items lying outside our properties. We also want to focus on this problem to help New Zealand improve reducing waste.
Audience
This project is aimed towards New Zealanders. During my research I discovered that majority of households in New Zealand did not have access to local Skip bins, or rubbish removal services and had trouble removing unwanted waste from their property.
Outcome
Creating a tool that encourages users to reduce waste from unused household items. I want to design an app that allows all the necessary tools in one place, providing a stress-free experience for users. Our goal is to repurpose and reduce waste. New Zealand has services of Community Recycling Centres and recycling stores. Repurpose is here to combine these tools all in one place.

Early Ideation
I created a board on Miro of inspiration collected from dribble.
I collected a series of inspiration and noted down functions, elements, designs and layouts that I wanted to implement into creating Repurpose.
The next step was to collect research from our competitors. I conducted a competitor research of 0800 DUMPME and Junk Removers, gathering a comparison of these two websites to see which elements I could implement into the prototype for Adjust. I used Miro to create boards, showing a brief wireframe of these platforms to understand how their users portray their platforms.
I started rough sketches of the early stages of the wireframe. This was essential to understanding the app's purpose and functions, ensuring alignment with the goal. Providing users with access to all possible tools in one place to dispose of unwanted household items is our objective. We aim to encourage users to take steps in contacting these services, making it crucial to prioritise creating tools for convenience.
After rough sketches of the wireframe was created I moved on to creating the low fidelity wireframe. More screens were added here as I started to understand the layout better. These low-fi frames were created on Miro.
User Research
I I conducted user research with two users. Creating user personas to understand their frustrations and goals with having to get rid of unwanted households. I also used research methods of Journey mapping, Empathy mapping and a Task flow. These diagrams were all created on Miro.
Final Design
The High-Fidelity design which was done on Figma include modifications and additional features compared to the mockup design. A few elements on the screens are enhanced and new screens are introduced.
I also simplified the card elements to display only the company names and a heart icon for users to mark their preferred companies and services as favourites. I removed the star rating and replaced it with the count of favourites by other users.
Additional modifications were made to the tab bar as well. While the mockup featured an attached tab bar, the final design includes a detached tab bar. This adjustment was made to better fit the layout of the app. I also removed the navigation icon in the search bar as it was not needed.
A new feature involving forms was also introduced. I integrated sign-in pages as an additional component to the final design, enhancing the user experience with the app by enabling them to easily manage their accounts and keep track of their activities.
Future Steps
I aim to continue improving the Repurpose experience for future users. These enhancements include creating a more effective contact tool between users and companies listed on the app, implementing a system for users to track the destination of their unused furniture, and making other improvements based on user feedback gathered through research on application usage.
